Girls and Science

You may have noticed that all the questions I have received are from girls.

To be fair, I have received questions from boys, I just haven’t gotten to them yet. But I find it interesting that most of the questions I have received indeed do come from girls.

Why is that? I don’t really have an answer, but I do find it encouraging. As we move farther into space, as we explore our solar system and send astronauts to the moon and Mars, as we try to answer the most perplexing questions about the universe, we need all the talents we can bring to the job.

I am also encouraged to see how many women are involved in the space program. Perhaps this is the reason I’m getting so many questions from girls; perhaps they are seeing great role models and realize this stuff is not just for boys. And I suspect, if I were a young girl, someone like Anousheh Ansari would make a big impression on me.

Science is for everyone.
